Spanner in the works!

When I posted yesterday about what to do with my dining table, I knew you guys would come up with some great ideas. But just when I thought I'd narrowed down my decision, I find myself with a conundrum of sorts - a new player has entered the game! Thanks to all the great ideas you've come up with, I'm now thinking zinc might be just what I'm looking for. Tricia Rose and Jules (gorgeous girls - you really have to check out their fab blogs if you haven't already) suggested zinc, so in the interests of research, I found these lovelies:

this combination with the tolix chairs - oh my!

this base is very similar to mine

So now, before I make my final decision, I'm going to check out the availability of zinc sheeting, and also the price. I love that it gets better with age, is durable and hard-wearing, and looks amazing to boot.

Thanks for the feedback everyone - I love that decorating has now become a collaborative process!

  4. Oooooo... loving the look of the Zinc and what a cool material to have on a table I would never have thought of that! And you know you could probably eat straight off it as I take Zinc tablets, they're meant to be good for you - hehehe.... listen to me! I'm so silly!
I can't wait to see what you decide Kerri, with your great style whatever it is will be fabulous!

  5. Here at last is the link I promised you Kerri: http://www.rotometals.com/Zinc-Sheet-Videos-s/55.htm

I see the third photo is from Petersham Nurseries, worth the trip to England just to visit, glorious, wonderful place... taking tea in those greenhouses is gobsmacking. I love that their zinc table aren't 'perfect' either - smooth corners so you don't slit an artery en passant, but patches, weathering and bigheaded galvanised nails~

    and thanks for the shout!

  6. Oh Kerri, you have so sold me on the metal top... That first shot...OH MY! The 2nd last shot reminds me of a location I used to shoot at in London- it was the most amazing Nursery in Petersham... in amoungst the flowers used to be $1000 candelabras. We set up a coouple of fashion shoots there and the shots were devine... Cam xox

  9. Zinc is a gorgeous alternative. I'm actually getting some for the top of a bench seat I'm making though haven't discovered the price yet. If it's expensive I'll need to come up with an alternative. Love the pics you found.

  10. Hi Kerri, Love the images you have posted and I would go for something like this in my courtyard. Just to 'buck the system' though, I am sticking with the marble top and white base image you posted yesterday for your internal dining table. It won my vote but I know what ever you decide will be wonderful as you have great taste!

  19. Hehe, i really wish all the people in my real world would take my advice as easily!!! but you know what, i changed my mind...i agree with Kerry, we really need to see some silver leaf!

I hope you can get your hands on some zinc, not always the easiest stuff to track down, but it is nice and soft to work with, and you can nail it on at the edges - got to love something you can whack with a hammer and it will still look good. If you don't have one, grab one of those soft rounded end hammers for working on the corners ;)

  22. Love the idea of covering your table with zinc. Seeing it up close in Dave's studio (the post you commented on) sold me on it. You should consider emailing him for any tips on how to apply it. I noticed he used particular type of nails. Let him know your contacting him from Australia - he's very nice and I'm sure he'd reply. Thanks for adding me to your blog roll - Im adding you too.
