2011 - Bring it On!

Instead of the usual 'resolutions' this year, I've decided to try something different. You see, I'm the sort of person who absolutely loves beginnings - the endless possibilities, the excitement of starting something new, the adrenalin rush.....but the problem can be keeping that enthusiasm going once the honeymoon stage is over. So, I've decided to have a list of goals for the year, broken down into achievable 'bites', with some nice little rewards along the way to keep things moving along. I've tried to keep the list short enough to be realistic, but challenging enough to keep me interested. So, here are a few of my goals for the year:

1. I'm going to spend more time on my larger paintings on canvas again. After my works on paper took off so well, my plan for the year is to find a balance between the two, as I must admit, I miss the big, messy fun of working on canvas. I have so many ideas, so my plan is to spend one day every week on the larger works.

private commission

2. I'm going to get my full website up and running - at long last. I'll be displaying works in situ, so you'll see what the painting actually looks like in a room, and there will be the option to buy each painting with the click of a button. I also have lots more goodies in store, but until they're all ready to go, I can't say too much. Watch this space!

3. I'll be continuing with my renovations here at home. Now that the pool is looking all pretty and brand-spankin', the landscaping is seriously letting the side down. So that's definitely on the plan for the year, as well as finishing my en suite, home office, dining area......you know how it is.

Some of Jamie Durie's handiwork - love it.

Pretty, no?

Of course, I have many, many more things on my 'to-do' list for 2011, but you know what? I'm not going to kill myself to get them done. They journey is at least half the fun, and for me, planning all the big things to come is so exciting in itself. So take a breath, relax, and enjoy the ride - that's my motto for the year.

2010 was fantastic on so many levels, and a big part of that was starting this blog. It seriously changed my life - big call I know, but true. And the best part - meeting all of you. You are the best. Thank you. Oh, and if any of you are thinking of starting your own blog, but haven't - do it. Be brave. Put yourself out there. You won't regret it.

Actually, I'm going to change my mind, and add one, and only one resolution that really says it all (thanks Nike). My resolution for 2011 - 'Just Do It'.

  1. Hahahaha...love the Motto...you are just ACE Special K! x

  2. Great achievable goals Kerri. I like the sounds of your upcoming website and being able to visualise your paintings in a room and being able to order with one click :) I look forward to seeing some of your 'big' pieces as you work on them this year x

  3. I like the sound of your new motto "breathe relax and enjoy the ride" sounds good to me.

  4. I love your idea! Small bites with a reward for a job well done! That is my kind of "resolution". I love the abstract rose picture, it is so peaceful, and pretty! I wish I could get something like that for my 1/2 bath. Is that weird? Wanting to put nice art in a bathroom? Anyway, it is beautiful!

  5. Sending best wishes your way for 2011, have an inspirational week!!!xx

  6. Hi Kerri, I did it! I just had the one year bolg thing going on, and just like you, I am SO happy i started last year! What a wonderful experience it has been!!

  8. I for one have thoroughly enjoyed your blog and look forward to your 2011 postings.

  9. I love it Kerri!!!!!
Can't wait to share 2011 with you!

  10. I'm so looking forward to hearing about what you are doing, and it will be exciting to see your artwork in situ. Seeing dimensions, colours and styles in a room makes it easy to see how it will translate in your own home. You've got well -defined goals which is the key to accomplishment.
I like that you're encouraging others to start blogs too. I find myself wondering everyday what have I done, and doubting myself, it's a bad habit that holds me back, so your words were just what I needed today.

  11. Kerri, I am so proud to know you! You are so accomplished & I cannot wait for your web site to be up. I, too, need to concentrate of my business as if it really is a business and develope my sales site, etc. Happy New Year, darling one.

  14. Hi Kerri, I love that painting - gorgeous and I look forward to seeing some more of your large canvases. I think this will be a very good year for you on many levels and I wish you all the best. ;-)

  15. I wish you all the very best for 2011 Kerri, I like how you have kept your goals for the year to a realistic few and I am sure that you will be able to achieve them. I am looking forward to the launch of your website. xx

  16. You go, girl! But also let yourself relax. I like the roses, planting them and helping them grow. But then I like to sit back and smell them too.

  17. Oh I luv the Rose charcoal 'Linger'. My favourite so far.

  18. Well said. Just do it. I agree with that. I'm very excited for you Kerri, I have no doubt you'll be bigger and better than ever in 2011! Rachaelxx

  19. Large paintings are so much fun, but also a big commitment to take on. I can see how you specifically want to plan it into your schedule.

I just stumbled across your blog for the first time and thought I would say hello! I looked through a few of your posts and love your style.

I'm a blogger as well, about the world of art, but my history is in interior design and fashion. I love to hear what people are saying! Hope we get to see more of each other in the future.

  20. Sounds like an awesome plan Kerri, I think your going to be extremely busy with art sales, your work is soooo beautiful & versatile. I wish you lots of sucess for 2011.
Blogging is certainly a great addition to life!

  21. I'm an interior designer from Melbourne - I loved your blog, I found it very inspiring. This is all new to me but I have just set up my own blog
You may like to check it out because I had so much fun doing it.
Thanks for providing me with such great entertainment!

  22. I love your painting Kerri! Just stunning.

Can't wait to see some of your larger canvases as the year progresses.
