Now for something completely different....

I thought I'd share this little painting study I did over the weekend. I haven't painted with watercolours for years, as most of my art is quite a bit larger in scale, and I tend to use acrylics and oils. But while I was at the art shop last week, buying some printing supplies (more on that later!) I picked up a little watercolour travel set. I'd forgotten how much fun it was to sketch up a scene and put brush to paper. Not sure whether I'm finished with this one yet (I know, the perfectionist in me is hard to ignore) but here it is so far:

I may add just a little more shading, but for now I think I'll just live with it for a bit. I'm also thinking of separating it into two or three smaller works, then framing them in simple white box frames, with white mats. Either way, I thoroughly enjoyed the process, so a few watercolour studies may soon be for sale as well as my usual works. The kids had a rare weekend off from sport, so I was able to get a lovely, uninterrupted  stretch of painting in ...bliss!

Hope you all had a great weekend too, and over the next few days I'll share some new projects I've been working on. See you soon,

  1. That's beautiful Kerri...very ethereal. Watercolours have such a different look and feel don't they. Just beautiful, as we would expect from you! Really look forward to seeing more.

I have to admit... there is a teeny- tiny little part of me that is looking forward to my girls going to school. I would love some uninterrupted paint time. :-)

I cannot wait to see your prints!

    Have a lovely week!

  5. Just gorgeous Kerri, and I love your idea of separating them into white box frams, that would look beautiful. Can't believe you haven't watercoloured for years, you look like a pro!
    Have a great monday,

  6. Now I can make some things from scratch. Just from my imagination. But I would be hopeless with a brush in my hand. I can't even paint furniture with a brush without making a humongous mess. I stick to spray paint. So you have my admiration!

  7. Beautiful painting! So soft and yet bold with the shadowing! I haven't done watercolor in years either. I used to love to do them but life has just turned me in a different direction. Hopefully one day I will pick up the brushes again. Good for you for going back to it, you are very talented! Also, YEAH that you had a free weekend. Those are hard to find, especially with kids! I think the idea of separating them would look very cool! Have fun!

  9. I really like the simplicity and pale washiness in this, Kerri. I used to do a lot of watercolour painting as a teen but haven't in years. It's a nice, fresh medium. I hope you find some time to do more in the near future :)

  11. You're so clever Kerri. What a lovely painting. It must be so nice to be able to keep the art you produce rather than throwing it in the bin like I do!

  13. Dear Kerri,
I really sound as if I'm sucking up but, I really do love your work. It is so calming and peaceful. Only you know if it needs anything else doing....if it needs a little tweaking..... but, whatever you do, it is a great painting. XXXX

  20. Beautiful, moody, subtle watercolours - I so love the softness of these washes. Wish I could paint... it's harder than it looks from such a flowing result.
