Now, I just so happen to have a few dining tables stashed away in my shed. I know I sound like a crazy hoarder type, but really, how could I pass up the chance to buy antique timber turned-leg tables for next to nix? But - there's one little problem - at the moment, the largest of the tables has a nasty chip-board top. To replace it, I can't decide whether to go for lovely, recycled timber (either limed or painted white), or I might just top it with a piece of marble I also happen to have in the shed (don't judge me!) So, you know the drill, what do you think? Here are some ideas I like, and I'd love your opinions as usual.

marble + timber = gorgeous! Atlanta Bartlett's handiwork again
marble + white timber - is this the winning combination? via Domino mag
Oh, and don't forget this table will be paired with my soon-to-be-revamped mirror, with a sideboard underneath. I always have the same problem when making these decisions - I like so many different looks. But I need to remind myself that nothing has to be forever, so my plan is to choose a look for as long as I like it, and then change it up again!
Hope you're all having a great day,
Oooh you are so lucky to have space to stash your treasures. Both sound lovely but I love the look of the marble table in the last pic :)
ReplyDeleteI feel that you're leaning towards the marble m'dear...and why not! That last image is stunning. I do like the timber topped one as well though...I'm no help I know! I'm coming to live in your shed though!!
ReplyDeleteI would personally use wood, not marble. I think marble looks cold, is clincky (is that a word?) with the cutlery, and it hard to maintain when you put the red wine bottle on it - as you will - and it dribbles down the side - as it will. Sooo, I would vote for wood.
ReplyDeleteHi Kerri. I love all those tables. I guess it depends what look you're after. The marble topped tables have a more eclectic feel where as recycled hardwood definitely says farmhouse. If your marble is the right colour and you can perhaps tie in some rustic timber elsewhere (like the third pic) then you've won my heart!

Oh Kerri, to have these sorts of decisions to make...I'm green with envy! I don't think you can go wrong with any of these amazing looks! I know...not much help right?! Sorry! And I'm not judging...I just want an invite to that shed of yours!!!
ReplyDeleteKat :)
Zinc! I have been longing for a zinc table ever since seeing a Conran one in the kitchen of a woman who though my husband should really have been hers... years ago.
ReplyDeleteOOOH!!! your shed sounds like a fun place to visit, Im not judging, Im envious!!! I love all of your inpsiration pics & can see why the decision is so hard...choices, choices, choices!!! I will look forward to seeing the end result, everything you do is beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteas you may already know that bottom picture is one of my fav images (not only of dining spaces!) of all time so i cant go past that combo! Dont forget the giant vase of peonies to go on it though :)

Hi Kerri
ReplyDeleteIm not much help - I love all of them!!! But I do have a soft spot for the limewash recycled timber. Any of them would look great..maybe you could have two table tops to interchange when you feel like it!! Sorry, Im the same I like too many different looks. Look forward to seeing what you choose.

No judgement - just envy that a) you have a shed big enough to house your finds and b) you have a slab of marble in said shed! marble all the way for me.
ReplyDeleteI loove the marble idea....I love mixing textures and that wins for me....Like you say you can always change it....Either way it will work and with your great style you will make it work.
ReplyDeleteI like the marble and I like the one with the tennis bench for seats. (we have one and LOVE IT)
ReplyDeleteAs far as tops go... run with the marble. You have it, it looks great and easy to clean :)

I love the pure white wood, I would be worried about marble with little heads! Though really I am sure wood would be the same... :) Good luck... I am the same I love looking which makes deciding so much harder... Cam xox
ReplyDeleteOh, Kerri. WHAT a dilemma. Here's what I think.
ReplyDeleteI just love the white-on-white from first image (but it may wear too quickly).
The 2nd image just reminds me too much of a cheap and nasty table I had when we first moved out on our own - suited us then - so I really can't be the judge on that look.
No. 3 - be still my beating 'eyeballs'. That looks ultra groovy where it is .. but might be a bit dreary to eat the spaghetti off ..
So .. No. 4 - I would never have thought it in a million years - but this looks D.E.V.I.N.E. - if you had told me about it and not showed me the pic, I would have called you 'crazy-gal' .. but this is lovely.
Please do it and then post a pic OK
My vote is for the recycled timber top painted white or limewashed - I think that would be so lovely in your home. I have that first image in my folder too - so fresh and lovely!
ReplyDeleteCan I vote for marble????? If you have it surely, surely you have to at least try it... I LOVE the sound of your shed!
ReplyDeletespoiled for choice has a lot going for it i say! perhaps with the biggest table you could clad the chipboard top with zinc. would be a cool look! jxx
ReplyDeleteWish I had a shed like yours! I like the idea of a recycled timber table. It feels warm and welcoming and like some other bloggers mentioned, marble looks great but can feel cold. They all look stunning so I can see why it is hard to decide! Can't wait to see what you choose!
ReplyDeleteX Briohny.
Oh Kerri...all or any of those choices would be fab...but it would be great if you could use..or reuse the piece of marble you already have stored...Im not that keen on the marble and white..as I think its a little too clinical looking..love the warmth that the natural wood adds to a space..especially when there is already alot of white...BUT...the marble is perfect..if this table is going to be in the kitchen area..great for extra working space for cooking etc.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite would have to be the marble and timber..it really is so super gorgeous..love it!
Cant wait to see what you decide..Oh..and those pendant lights in the last image...GORGEOUS!! x
I am not sure what your home looks like, but I love the sound of white marble with white washed wood.....an a mix of chairs, some white, some old natural wood to ground it..
ReplyDeleteLovely photo's! I personally like the timber, it send off a warmth and is so inviting! I love marble mixed with wood, marble all alone might be a little too cold. I can't wait to see what you come up with !

hi kerri, love those recycled woods! missed reading your posts, lots of catch up to do. It is great to be back and so sorry for the late reply. thanks for your touching messages. you have a wonderful day! verbena cottage
ReplyDeleteHi Kerry! I really love the warmth of wood, so I will use it instead of marble....but marble is so practical in kitchen, easy to clean, perfect for cooking... I think it's a matter of pratical against aesthetics.... What do you prefer?
ReplyDeleteHugs!
Mara
i am all about the rustic wood...loving that look right now. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Kerri, so when is the shed party? Everyone wants to visit your treasure trove... Who just randomly has gorgeous tables and marble sitting in their sheds? I think that last picture has your name on it, even those lights are you! I say go the marble. Nice post.
ReplyDeleteCasting one vote for recyled timber.
ReplyDeleteFondly,
Glenda
If I can just get over my shed-envy I might be able to give an opinion!!! Goodness, you are a lucky lady to have space to have OPTIONS stashed away! I love the look of marble and timber but it's always so cold to the touch... I'm with Ashlina above - I'm all about rustic at the moment xxx
