One gorgeous home three ways...well almost

If you've been reading my blog for a while, you may remember this post, when I featured one of my favourite houses. It was originally built by artist Marcella Kaspar and her husband, Mark Cooper, and later sold to Maggie Tabberer. Well, Marcella and Mark have since built another home, with a similar floorplan, but this time they decided to change things up a little, and the results are just stunning.

And here are a few pics of the original house:

And again, with the Maggie T touch:

So, which do you prefer? Dark and moody, or bright and beautiful? I love nothing more than seeing a house like this, which has fabulous bones and great style, decorated so differently. Love to know what you think.

  1. Is this the theme for your new home? At least you could say you have water views. Definitely stunning! ;-)

  3. When I first started reading this post I thought the first house looked really nice but then when I saw the "Maggie" house - definately the winner for me! It is so much more interesting and homely! Great post! Tracey xx

  4. Oh my! What a simply stunning home - I'm loving the look of the bathroom with the bone inlay cabinet and mirrors (I think I'm drooling now!!!!). I'd be happy with either look of course!

  5. I remember this house from paging through a glossy mag with Maggie T's house. I remember they were worried about moving the Frangipani that was over 100 years old, but it was no problem, and how beautiful next to the pool.
I don't want to be a fence sitter, but I do love both options. I think my style is more the second option; but again both I'd live in happily. Very happily!!
Do you think they've painted the ceilings in gloss? The light seems to bounce reflections off it. Interesting.

  10. Wow, I love the layout of both houses built around a couryard pool! Oh, to live in the wonderful climate of Australia! I think I like the darker, ethnic accents in the second house so I lean toward that one, but the lighting she picked for the first one was impressive too!

  12. They are both stunning but I probably prefer their latest one. I love all the lights too. Big sigh!

  13. I love the new revitalised version of this house. While Maggie has great style, her interiors are always a bit dull in my opinion, as she only ever paints and decorates with white. There are too many wonderful colours in the world to be stuck in that kind of palette. I think this infusion of colour and texture brings a great depth, interest and personality to this inner city home. Great job.

  14. All nice, none quite my taste, but one question leaps out at me: How would you get an unfenced pool through council? And would you really want to?

  15. I'd take it any way...so relaxing!! I'm totally obsessed with the lighting in the first images, especially the chandeliers over the farmhouse table...fabulous!!

  16. Kerri, it's son funny... I am looking at these images and thinking to my self "Gosh, this looks familiar", and you know what? I actually still have the magazine tear-outs (I know; Old School)
of the "old" light filled version of the house. I just LOVE that house, and secreatly want to build something similar, here in Florida :)

  17. What a beautiful home! I think I prefer the dark and moody because the house still has so much light and is openness. Love it all! I would feel like I were on vacation in that house every day of the year!

  20. What a fascinating post! Quite brilliant to see how different people treat the same space, to create a very different atmosphere. And do you mean to say that they recreated their original floor plan, down to the placement of the tree and pool, in their new home??? How extraordinary....

I love the dark drama of the current home, with the dark walls and huge artworks, although it looks like a very forgiving home, where it is going to look fab no matter what is done to it, with a great pool and huge windows like that.

  21. Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous. And I remember the previous house you blogged about as well. I'd like to second Chookie's question about the lack of a pool fence at both houses... how is this possible? I'm in NSW, and I'd love a pool-in-the-courtyard setup like this... but how?

  26. Kerri I love these homes. I remember when the original one was featured in one of the magazines a couple of years ago. I just loved it and wanted the kitchen so badly, actually we had a kitchen built on a similar design so it must have been quite a few years ago that it was featured. I don't think Maggie had it then. xxx
