Shut.The.Front.Door

I think the entrance to a home is really important - it can say a lot about the people who live there. Whether it sports a fire-engine red door, a gated courtyard, a shot of bright colour....first impressions count. While we work on our house plans, I'm thinking of giving our existing door a little makeover. It's solid timber, with glass sidelights, but it's really boring and badly in need of a spruce-up. But now, the million-dollar question....what colour to choose? So many colours....and only one front door.

love this glossy black number, paired with the chrome doorknob

Miles Redd's lovely turquoise door has been really popular for some time now. love the hardware and kickplate

 all white

 magenta maybe?

really, really  love this pretty pink number...who would know what you'd find behind the door?

So, anyone gone all out with their front door? Tell me everything.

  1. Have fun selecting! It's one of those elements where you can really go to town on the drama.

  2. Hi kerri

I love (did I mention I love!) the turquoise front door!
It is so special and I really want one one day

I wonder if you could ever have one of those type of mirror doors - with the people can't see in but you can see out and everything scenarios - can you imagine how amazing that would be :)

    have a happy day

  3. I have a boring white one, but it just blends well with the rest of the house (pale blue timber). If I had the right exterior my choice would be a huge glossy black door with gleaming hardware - it looks so grand.
In another house I once had a bright yellow door for a while. It was a happy colour qnd quite a statement.

  5. That first door is magnificent. I love glossy black. Would love to peek further into that house. Do you have any idea where it's located, Kerri?

  7. Not too exciting at our place, just white! Maybe I will get brave when our stairs are back in place to the real front door. I do love that black door in the first image though. What colour are you thinking? ;-)

  8. I am struggling with the very same decision! We have been mulling this over for quite some time and our door is looking VERY neglected. We also want to repaint the shutters...I am leaning towards a mellow yellow color. Our house is white and our shutters are black right now. The previous owners had painted the door a light blue...which isn't a bad color it is just not what I would have picked. The only problem I have is that we are going to be redoing the roof soon and we are going to go with brown shingles...I think. lol I think I am suffering from inability to make a decision regarding my front door...is there medication for this? I know everyone says...paint it red...but I want something different.

  10. I'm with you on the importance of a front door and beautiful entry area...to me it sets the tone for the whole house! I haven't gone bold yet but I want an oversized glossy black front door with a transom window over the top if I get my dream front door someday soon!

  13. Oh I am looking at my sad looking front door wondering how I can make it look more interesting. We have a screen door in front of it so that's a real decorating challenge.

  14. Looks like black is the winner here! And Sandy, the pic you asked about is from an old real estate listing, but Annie from A View on Design did a post on it too - here's the link:

  17. I've painted our front door more times that I care to admit! It's been purple, dark brown, dark blue, purple again, and now it's turquoise. I love the colour - it's so bright and happy :-)

  18. Yes, I love the black one too. I am currently building a contemporary home so my front door is an extra wide, clear glass pivot door with clear glass sidelights. I dream of a weekender and I've filed the black door pic into my wish list folder! Thanks for the link to the rest of the home, I'm heading there now for a peep!
