One gorgeous home...two ways

Over the past few weeks I've been trying (rather unsuccessfully I might add) to cull some of my stash of magazines, and in the process I found these pics of one of my favourite homes. This house originally belonged to artist Marcella Kaspar and her builder/designer husband Mark Cooper, and was featured in Vogue Living magazine. I loved it from the outset, with its beautiful old frangipani and Marcella's stunning artwork:

what a way to wake up every morning

stunning seascpes take centre stage in the main living area

the curtains are divine, as are Marcella's signature peony paintings

Fast forward a few years, and fashion icon Maggie Tabberer is the new owner, making a few changes in the decor department:

Maggie enlisted friend Pam Makin of Les Interieurs to collaborate on the new interior design scheme

Maggie's style is a little more 'designed' perhaps?

So, I'd love to know what you think - which style do you prefer? Honestly, I'd be more than happy with either!

  2. Oh yes Kerri...this is a house I've loved to look at too! As much as I love MT's style, the art work in the first iteration really does it for me. And such a beautiful space to work with. Sigh.

  3. Oh, I have always LOVED this place! I would take either style as I think it all takes 2nd place to the internal courtyard with the pool and frangipani tree. I love how the whole house opens up onto it :)

  7. I remember seeing this house in VL, I didn't know that Maggie T had bought it now. I think I prefer Maggie's style. Such a stunning home, I LOVE pools in courtyards in the middle of the house. BTW I can't remember who it was but some guy told me that he saw Maggie at the airport once and her beauty literally took his breath away (even at whatever age she is now)!
    THanks for sharing Kerri,
    Jxx

  8. THe house looks gorgeous Kerri, I would love to see a floor plan as it look like the house is built around a courtyard. I prefer Marcella's style but I would happily take either. Have a great day. xx

Like you I've bookmarked both versions and think that to sleep in that dreamy bedroom would be the epitome of bliss.

  10. As much as I love Maggie Tabberer I prefer the look of the home when Marcella Kaspar and her husband Mark Cooper owned it.

  11. Kerri, the floral canvas over the bed of the 1st owners is my all time fave. If you ever feel the need to paint something like this let me know.....and yes this is a home to aspire to.....simply stunning, stunning.

  12. I remember this house .. as at that we lived in a 70's house that had a courtyard smack bang in the middle of the house (surrounded on all sides). It wasn't as large as this - but oh how I dreamed of putting a pool in there.

As far as picking which style - I would have to stick with the original. I love Maggie T's style - but LOVE the original

  13. That's funny, I scrolled through the first few photos thinking "wow, that looks a lot like Maggie Tabberer's home"... and so it is. Clearly, I spend WAY too much time with my head buried in mag's.

I like the first way, but I would have to keep those beautiful curtains in Maggie's bedroom, they are lovely.

  15. Kerri, I swear we are design spirit sisters... I have this house in my inspiration folder along with Huka Lodge! How funny! I've always adored the bathroom and the Frangipani trees in the courtyard x

  17. I fell in love with this Sydney house from the moment I first laid eyes on it a few years back. It was the perfect back drop for Marcella's lovely artwork.

  19. Wow. I remember the original article as I too have a huge magazine collection - one of my addictions I just can't shake. I like elements from both of these styles - if I had to choose I would probably go with the original design. Hope your having a great week. Michelle

  21. I'd actually like to mesh the two. Over All, I like the 2nd one best. But I love the artwork and dinning chairs in the 1st. Either way the house is Dreamy!!

  24. What an amazing house. I'm more the first - a little more relaxed, traditional - than the second. What amazing living room sliding doors. I don't think I've seen such large ones before. I take it you don't have bugs as I don't see any screens on them.

  25. I love that oak table with the marble top.....gorgeous.

  26. Somehow I think the first style grabs me more. Love that the house is so infused with beautiful light. And both are infused with the love of their owners.

  28. Hi Kerri, you're right , this house is sunning either way, but if I HAD to choose I'd go for the colours in the first version, they look a little more comforting to me, and I love the paintings.
Thanks for your sweet comment, but making jam is really to easy to raise me to the status of domestic goddess!!
